Hairy Hands’ Extraterrestrial Debut LP Out 2nd September On Tape Club

Intergalactic sound voyager Hairy Hands launches debut long player ‘Magic’ into the universe via Tape Club Records (and New Los Angeles in US), set for delivery on Earth date 2nd September 2016.

Following on from last year’s ‘Battlecat’ EP; ‘Magic’ tells the story of the death of the Sun, the demise of Earth and humanity’s development of space travel to find another planet to inhabit. The album weaves its way from spaceship bathroom romp ‘Shower’, past the breathless ‘Chest & Lungs’, landing in a distant woodland on ‘Wildcats’ before discovering alien life on ‘YNA’ and ‘Are You all The Same’.

“I saw the album as an imaginary space journey where I’d encounter different adventures and relationships based on my changing moods and thoughts. It’s all wrapped up in imagination. I like to get into another headspace, almost like playing a character in a B-movie, to let my mind travel and explore visually and audibly.”

Our chief navigator is multi-instrumentalist/producer/singer James Alexander Bright aka Hairy Hands, joined on deck by a motley crew of friends: co-pilot Peter Lyons (contributing writer and producer across the record), Andy Ramsey (Drums – Stereolab), Kwake Bass (Drums – MF Doom, Kate Tempest, Lianne La Havas), Jack Wylie (Saxophone – Portico, Circle Traps, Szun Waves), Mark Rainbow (Keys – Laurel Collective) and Big Dada signed Roseau (guest vocalist on ‘Wildcats’).

After periods in Devon and London, Bright now resides in the Hampshire countryside, which helps provide the impetus for his creativity:

“I love the wide open spaces you get in the country, there’s nothing like walking out into the middle of a dark field at night and taking in all the sounds and stars. I think this is why I have a fascination with space travel/sci -fi and otherworldly sounds.”

‘Magic’ closes with ‘Wolf’ ft vocals by Peter Lyons; an ode to a meeting between a young female Native American Chief (who features on the glorious album artwork by Essy May) and a wolf over a desert fire, where the Chief embodies the wolf’s power and spirit under a burning night sky.

Don’t call it a journey – it’s a voyage.
